Administrative Assistant

Job Overview:
The Administrative Assistant’s duties include providing administrative support to insure efficient operation of the office. The Administrative Assistant supports manager and employees thru a variety of tasks related to organization and communication.  The Administrative Assistant is familiar with the firm’s practices and procedures.  The Administrative Assistant has the ability to effectively communicate in person, via phone and email ensuring that all duties are completed accurately and delivered with high quality.

Qualifications:

  • Personable.  Meets and engages easily with the public.
  • Experienced with the Microsoft Office Suite and output devises.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • General knowledge of the Civil Engineering and Surveying professions.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Excellent time management skills.

Survey Project Manager – SPM

Education Requirement:
BS or higher in Surveying or related topic, BS in unrelated topic supplemented by adequate surveying course work and mathematical knowledge to meet licensing requirements

Licensing Requirement:
Professional Surveyors License in the State where project work is performed.

Communication Skills:
Good written and verbal communication skills.  Individuals in this position will be able to present written and verbal information and analysis to clients, boards and the public as may be required to complete assigned projects.

Computing/Computer Skills:
Adequate mastery of AutoCADD, visual COGO programs, survey adjustment programs, GPS processing software, Spread Sheets, Word processors, and image manipulation software to conduct day to day work on projects and communications.

Field Survey Skills:
A survey Project Manager will retain adequate mastery of performing field data collection and other field operations to instruct new subordinate personnel, insure the quality of data collected by subordinates, and chief a field crew as the occasion may arise.

Management and Scheduling:
Estimate project costs, prepare proposals, schedule and track project progress for timing and cost, communicate with clients.  Prepare or review project billing. Oversee field work, research, computations, drafting and other activities associated with the completion of his/her assigned projects.

Quality Control:
The survey project manager is responsible for all aspects relating to survey functions of the projects in which he/she is engaged.  Prior to affixing a seal and signature to plans, reports or other work products, the survey project manager must be adequately informed of and comfortable with survey work and related functions undertaken by others which by licensing rules fall to the direction of a Professional Land Surveyor.  When projects require team efforts between various licensed disciplines, the surveyor will be responsible for those for which he/she is uniquely licensed by the State.

Professionalism / Ethics:
The survey project manager will follow all licensing requirements which pertain to a professional land surveyor including those addressing professionalism and Ethics.  He/she will be honest and fair in dealing with clients, the public and fellow employees and will strive to avoid conflicts of interest.

Regulatory: 
The survey project manager will possess adequate knowledge and skill to review and understand local ordinances and State regulations associated with the projects in which he/she has the primary professional lead role.  This individual need not have total mastery on these topics, but needs to be adequately versed to know when investigation is required.  Resolution may require outside expertise and/or guidance.

Land Surveyor in Training 

Education Requirement:
BS or higher in Surveying or related topic, BS in unrelated topic supplemented by adequate surveying course work and mathematical knowledge to meet licensing requirements.

Licensing Requirement:
Land Surveyor in Training License.

Communication Skills:
Good written and verbal communication skills.  Individuals in this position will be able to present written and verbal information and analysis to clients, boards and the public as may be required to complete assigned projects – all under the direction of a supervising project manager.

Computing/Computer Skills:
Adequate mastery of AutoCADD, visual COGO programs, survey adjustment programs, GPS processing software, Spread Sheets, Word processors, and image manipulation software to conduct day to day work on projects and communications (some of these skill may be developing).  Work will be under the direction of a supervising project manager.

Field Survey Skills:
This individual will be able to function as a survey party chief, an instrument operator and a rod person.    On site, as party chief, this individual will direct field operation and have the final say as to how field decisions are made.  Work will be conducted under the direction of a supervising project manager.  They will report directly to the project manager all conversations and observations which may arise in field.

Management and Scheduling:
This person will direct others assigned to them for field work.  It is their responsibility to have field work progress as efficiently as can reasonably be achieved.  It is also their responsibility to make sure that mileage, materials and field labor are reported to the business office.  This may be done by any of the field crew members, but coordinate is the PMIT’s responsibility.

Quality Control:
The PMIT is responsible to report to the SPM on all aspects of the work the PMIT conducts and to adhere to all instructions and directions given by the SPM.  The PMIT is often the ears, eyes and hands of the SPM, but this position is a pre-professional position, and all activities of the PMIT are ultimately the professional responsibility of the SPM.  “GOOD ENOUGH” must be good enough for the SPM!

The PMIT will follow all licensing requirements which pertain to a professional land surveyor including those addressing professionalism and Ethics.  He/she will be honest and fair in dealing with clients, the public and fellow employees and will strive to avoid conflicts of interest.

Project Engineer

Education Requirement:
BS or higher in Civil Engineering (or subfield thereof) supplemented by adequate civil engineering or related course work and mathematical knowledge to meet licensing requirements

Experience Requirement:
Minimum of 5-8 years in engineering positions with increasing responsibility

Licensing Requirement:
Professional Engineers License in the State where project work is performed.

Communication Skills:
Good written and verbal communication skills. Individuals in this position must be able to present written and verbal information and analysis to clients, boards and the public as may be required to complete assigned projects.

Computing/Computer Skills:
Adequate mastery of AutoCAD (or similar CAD program), Spread Sheets, Word processors, and image manipulation software to conduct day to day work on projects and communications. Additional skills/familiarity with Database, Presentation, Project Management, HydroCAD Stormwater Analysis and/or Structural software is desirable.

Field Skills:
An Engineering Project Manager will retain adequate mastery of performing field observations of constructed improvements to both perform those observations (preparing “on the spot” critiques and detailed reports) as well as instructing subordinate personnel on how to perform those services.

Management and Scheduling:
An Engineering Project Manager shall be able to estimate project costs, prepare proposals; schedule and track project progress for timing and cost, and communicate with clients. He/she shall also prepare/review project billing, oversee office & field work, research regulations (federal, state and local), perform/review computations/calculations, prepare/review technical drawings, prepare applications and other activities associated with the completion of hislher assigned projects.

The Engineering Project Manager is responsible for all aspects relating to the engineering functions of the projects in which he/she is engaged. Prior to affixing a seal and signature to plans, reports or other work products, the Engineering Project Manager must be adequately informed of and comfortable with the engineering work and related functions undertaken by others which by licensing rules fall to the direction of a Professional Engineer.
